Is Signed Sports Memorabilia a good long term investment?
If you were to buy say a signed baseball card would it gain value in a few years to the point where it could be sold for profit. Also, if you were to buy signed memorabilia from somebody who is alive would it gain a lot of value after they pass on?
It depends.
Autographs have a very long history of possible forgeries. However, there are collectible companies who now authenticate using experts and DNA. So if you were to considering buying an Autograph, you will know for certain if it is certified.

Some sports card companies are also including signed and numbered cards of professional sports athletes. These are guaranteed authentic by the card manufacturer such as Topps, Upper Deck, Panini, etc.
