In the movie "Girl Interrupted" does Lisa? (Angelina Jolie)?
think of Susanna as her surrogate best friend after "Jamie"?
In the beginning when she first meets Susanna she wants to know where her friend Jamie is & we learn she killed herself while Lisa had been away.
Then later when Lisa asks Susanna if she still wants to go to Florida (Disney world) with her she says "I have to get out of here Jamie". Then Susanna says "But I'm Susanna".
She was lost in her own mind. Her disease would give her moments of lucidity where she was wild and out of control and at her low moments she would be confused.
If you really want to know the truth of the story, read the book. It is very well written. The movie added a lot.
